  • 1) Achieve zero net greenhouse gas emissions;
  • 2) Reuse waste water for sustainable food production;
  • 3) Implement regenerative agriculture and aquaculture practices;
  • 4) Reorient waste flows and use renewable energy;
  • 5) Achieve a positive net balance of fresh water.

Tasks of Working Group 7 (WEFE Nexus (Feeding)) – MORECOLAB Leader

  • 7.1. Permaculture organic farming;
  • 7.2. Recovery of rejected brine in solar saltworks (“Brine2Salt”);
  • 7.3. Installation of a polyphenol extraction unit;
  • 7.4. Valorization of polyphenols;
  • 7.5. CC for UAE of biphenols (CC4BPE);
  • 7.6. Collection and transport of OMW (wet bagasse and OMWWW);
  • 7.7. Shrimp – AMTI of seaweed;
  • 7.8. Management of the donation and distribution of food surpluses.
  • Water – Production of reclaimed water for irrigation through the desalination of brackish water and the treatment of waste from olive oil mills.
  • Energy – Production of renewable energy through agro-photovoltaic and anaerobic digestion technologies.
  • Food – Production of certified organic crops, table and epsom salt, polyphenols, shrimps and seaweed.
  • Environment – Pollutant control and soil preservation.
  • Scalability – Development of long-term business models, policy recommendations and frameworks for replication and expansion across all regions.
