Identification & Background
Project designation: FORECAST – Fostering Resilient Agroforestry Systems with climate-ready Tree and Herbaceous Germplasm
Project code: PRIMA/0008/2024
Main objective: FORECAST will provide new sustainable solutions for the revitalization of agroforestry systems in the Mediterranean region. An innovative strategy will be implemented, based on the use of highly resilient and locally adapted neglected legumes (“orphan legumes” – OLs), as well as specific seed technology in existing agroforestry systems, addressing a range of different socio-economic/edafoclimatic conditions throughout the Mediterranean region. Precision farming techniques will be integrated into traditional practices. The FORECAST strategy will overcome obstacles to the adoption and expansion of new precision farming practices implemented.
Region of intervention: Mediterranean

FORECAST will provide sustainable technical solutions to revitalise Mediterranean agroforestry (AF) systems in the face of climate change challenges. The project will explore neglected legumes (OLs), seed technology, precision agriculture (PA) and climate data analysis to:
Through a multi-actor approach (MAA), FORECAST will ensure that the real needs of stakeholders (as co-creators) are taken into account, especially with regard to advice services and solutions requested throughout the Mediterranean region.
