Territory: Nordeste Transmontano | Rede Natura 2000 | Reserva da Biosfera Transfronteiriça da Meseta Ibérica

The main objectives of this project are:

  • Promote the restoration of cork oak trees, through the conversion of eucalyptus to this habitat in the area affected;
  • Improve and conserve the soil of the model area to increase its resilience to climate change and fire risk by combating desertification, through reafforestation and actions that promote the increased fixation of carbon and nutrients in the soil to recover its ecological function;
  • Create the local Algoso Composting Base Station, in order to increase the organic matter in the soil and enhance its regeneration;
  • Ensure better and more effective sustainable management and conservation of the territory and its natural resources.

The intervention area of the project is located in the parish of Algoso, in the municipality of Vimioso (district of Bragança), in the Northeast Transmontano, and is integrated into the Special Conservation Zone and Special Protection Zone Rios Sabor e Maçãs of the Natura 2000 as well as in the Transboundary Biosphere Reserve of the Iberian Plateau.

The project will carry out the assessment and monitoring of the soil, habitats and biodiversity of the intervention area to promote the holistic restoration of the local ecosystem.
